To critically question yoga practice and find ways to deepen it: That is the aim of my Insight Yoga project.
The goal of all traditional forms of yoga is to change our consciousness sustainably. In order to meet this goal, it is necessary to delve deeply into authentic yoga practice and our psyche.
The insights (prajñā) that one can come to through such a conscious practice are considered in many yoga traditions as a basic requirement in order to free our consciousness from the limitations of the ego (āvidya).
Questioning (vicāra) is at the beginning an intellectual process, which is then integrated into practice through the conscious and purposeful exercise of the various techniques.
Without this deepening process, modern posture yoga runs the risk of reducing itself to just the body and ego consumption; and the truly transformative dimension of consciousness of yoga is lost.
The yoga classes at Insight Yoga therefore focus on the following:
- To give a better understanding of the history, values, philosophy and psychology of yoga
- To examine the ego with its limited ability to perceive (avidyā) and in this way to integrate yoga into daily life
- To train mindfulness and clear intention
- To understand the approaches and modes of action of different forms of yoga and to be able to integrate them
- To deepen yoga practice, including teaching practice
- To open up new areas of knowledge, to constantly develop and to learn from every encounter, every moment
